German design studio Ingenhoven Associates has taken on a redesign project in the form of the Calwer Passage -- this was once a shopping center and office block. The team has added a 'natural curtain' of trailing plants to the facade and it involved a reconstruction and extension of the center. At the top is a heritage-protected section and the team added six floors of apartments and offices.
The studio speaks to Dezeen sharing "The Calwer Passage originally emerged in the 1970s as a cutting-edge office and retail complex. The current green transformation upholds the original vision of urban rejuvenation, taking a further step in creating a healthier and more appealing environment, improving pedestrian connectivity and enriching the biophysical and societal ecosystem. For the building's occupants, the greenery serves as a natural, filtering curtain, providing cooling, shading, and cleaner air, while enhancing overall wellbeing."
